Thank you to those of you who have already offered to volunteer for our Breakfast Program!  All we need now is a volunteer for Friday mornings (Fridays we serve cereal + milk).

Also, we wouldn’t mind having a couple of parent volunteers who could be substitute breakfast program servers in case one of our volunteers can’t make their scheduled date.  If you may be able to help out occasionally and wouldn’t mind being a backup, please also let us know.

Thanks again and we hope to get the breakfast program up and running next week.  Just a reminder, the program runs from 8:30 – 8:55 in the Community Room.  If you would like your child to have breakfast from the program, please ensure that they arrive no earlier than 8:30 am and that they are aware of  what the menu item is. (M/W/F – cereal + milk, T/Th – bagels OR waffles with jam, butter, or cream cheese).

Notice of Community Council AGM Sept 11th

You are invited to attend the Stoney Creek Community Council AGM on Wednesday, September 13th, 2017 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room (parent social begins at 6:30 PM).  All adults who live and work in the Stoney Creek community are voting members of the Stoney Creek Community Council and are welcome to attend meetings.  The Council Constitution is on the Stoney Creek School website, and describes the composition of the Executive and the associated duties of the main positions. Childcare will be provided for those that require it.

The following positions are open for nomination:

Chair (2-year term, replacing Jools Trasler)

Vice Chair (2-year term, replacing Angela Bucher)

Secretary (replacing Katie Warboys)

DPAC Representative (replacing Kristin Schnider)

If you are interested in any of these positions, please contact Vice-Chair Angela Bucher (angbucher@gmail.com) or any of the current incumbents through the Community Office to discuss the duties and time commitments.

At the September 13th AGM, the Council will also be reviewing and voting on the proposed bylaw changes that were circulated and posted on the Stoney Creek school website last June. A copy of the proposed changes is available at http://stoneycreek.sd41.bc.ca/stoney-creek-community-council-constitution-amendments/

To be part of the Stoney Creek Community Council, you do not need to be on the Executive or attend all the meetings. Please consider volunteering for one of our sub-committees, such as the Fundraising Group, Staff Appreciation, Publishing House, School Planning, Safety or Fun Lunches. More details will be available at the AGM on September 13th.

Breakfast Program Volunteers Needed Sept 11th

Stoney Creek is fortunate to receive donations from community organizations to offer a free drop in Breakfast Program to Stoney Creek students who may not have had breakfast before arriving at school or are in need of a little extra nutritional boost in the mornings before school.

This program is funded entirely by donations from the Tzu Chi Foundation and the Burnaby Empty Bowls Grant, and is run by parent and community volunteers.

We are looking for parent volunteers to help us run our program this year.  The program runs from 8:30 – 8:55 a.m., Monday – Friday.  If you have a few minutes to spare on one of those mornings, we would greatly appreciate your help.   The breakfast items are very easy to serve (M, W, F: cereal + milk, T/Th: Bagels with jam or cream cheese) and no experience is necessary.  In the past we have had a couple of parents take 1 day a week and rotate their schedule with each other if that makes it easier.

If you can spare time on 1 of these mornings, please let us know by Friday, September 15th by emailing Taryn Briscoe at Taryn.Briscoe@sd41.bc.ca or phone 604-296-9031 extension 651011.  We are hoping to have the program up and running by Monday, September 18th.
